Agriculture: Backbone of the Region's Economy

Crops grown in the Holly area consist of alfalfa, wheat, barley, milo, sorghum, millet and corn. The neighboring communities of Granada and Bristol produce onions, cantaloupes, potatoes and other vegetable crops. Both irrigated and dry land farming practices are prevalent in the area. Irrigation occurs utilizing either deep wells for pumping or through ditch conveyance utilizing the Arkansas River, the Amity, Buffalo, XY and Sisson Canals, all constructed in the late 1800's.

Grasslands in the area provide grazing for cattle and sheep. Livestock feeding of cattle and hogs is also a major part of the agriculture picture in the Holly area.
